DeutschAnimation of Jules Verne ATV departure & controlled re-entry over the Pacific Ocean
A great animation showing an artist's visualisation of the entire undocking and reentry sequence - which will be complete in just under 24 hours from now. Of course, the undocking took place on 5 September at 23:29 CEST, since when the ATV has been in its rephasing period, which will last just over 23 days (original press release w/more tech details on the ESA web site). -- Daniel

burning down the solar pannels against atmosphere is cheaper than a folding mechanism to fold them back into the hull?
doesn't them act as a wing against air?
maybe it affects entry vector and exposes critical areas to high temperatures...

That's the idea, to burn down the Jules Verne completely because it doesn't have heat shield for saving weight
