Thanks for the rapid distribution of the screenshots! Watching the approach and departure, even in a small computer window, was great and reminded me of "2001" - so it is nice to have some souvenirs already! :-)

Watched the whole sequence of ATV approach to ISS. It was amazing!
Feel a little bit disappointed that the UK were not more directly involved in the project which so far has been a great success.
At least there was the connection with EADS Astrium although Germany and France were the players this time.

That was a really beautiful ballet of Jules Verne.
I hope that i'm wrong but on some close views of the ATV i had the feeling that there was some lose insulation at one side of the forward compartiment. Anybody has an idea?

An update has just be published on the ESA website: http://www.esa.int/SPECIALS/Operations/SEMSGE5QGEF_0.html

An hour ago I have seen, even in the lights of Warsaw, ATV when it was chased by ISS. It was a great view.
I couldn't see NASA docking on TV. Is there any possibility to see it via internet? Could anyone send me a link?

check the NasaTV videofiles program. They replay, every hour or so, a video of the event.

What is "ESA Docking Video System"?
I know about Russian camera onboard of SM which is used by crew and by ground specialists to monitor aproach.

The ESA Docking Video System is a join project developed with ESA, RSC_E, Televidiena St. Peterbutgand NASA, under ESA directives, founding and technical specifications to provide an end-to-end digital path from the ESA encoder down to the consoles in MCC_M. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in more for technical details.

After days of cloudy skies I finally got the opportunity to watch the pair of spacecraft fly over tonight... and what a brilliant sight it was! At magnitudes of -0.6 and -2.5 they were the brightest objects in the sky over Delft, the Netherlands.
It did amaze me how big the distance was between the two craft. I thought 39 km would look a lot closer at that altitude, but the distance was remarkable.

have been outside and seen the atv in front of the ISS, first time we have seen both.
fantastic

Daniel. Thanks for keeping us all informed and great work today. I saw ATV go over England tonight a few seconds ahead of ISS and managed to get a few photos. Here's a stack as the two spacecraft flew almost overhead from here: http://www.theastronomer.org/misc/atv-iss_20080331_ndj.jpg. They were a bit further apart than I expected.

Wow, nice! And indeed they look further apart than I would expect. But if they are doing 27000km/h, in 2 sec they move 15km, so their distance of 39km is covert in 2,6 sec. Right? Fast!

Could you explain to me why the ISS camera's see in the approach the ATV Jules Verne "Upside down"?
I saw it again yesterday in the transmission of the ATV VNR.
Good luck today from Estec.
