Roman MakhinThe recent low-altitude VMC observations have seen some wonderful interpretations of the data by the public, including this submission by Roman Makhin of Lukhovitsy, Russia.

Roman stiched together the images to form a mosaic covering the planet and performed colour processing to enhance the image. Stretching across from the left of the image is the huge valley Valles Marineris and the South Pole is just off the bottom of the image. For more details on how he did it click "Full Story." Thanks for the submission Roman! -- Thomas

Mike Malaska has created a number of excellent Mars composite images in the past few weeks using VMC images acquired by ESA's Mars Express on 1 July 2008 and 23 December 2009. His work highlights surface features including the Valles Marineris - a deep set of complex graben that stretch over 2000 km across - and the bright Argyre Planitia region. Two of the best are shown below - click on the images for details on Mike's processing and to view hi-res versions. Thanks, Mike! -- Daniel
